Installation Tips

It's easy to create an elegant, custom look!

Installing Door Panels & Sidelights

Door and sidelight panels are held in place by two rods, one at the top and one at the bottom of each panel. Begin the process of hanging your panels by installing the top rod.

  1. Slip the top rod through the top rod pocket of the panel and hang the panel in place.
  2. Slip the bottom rod through the bottom rod pocket, and with the panel hanging straight, mark the location of the bottom brackets. The bottom brackets and rod should be positioned to hold the panel in place without excess tension.
  3. Install the bottom brackets and attach the bottom rod to the brackets with the panel mounted on the bottom rod.
  4. For an hourglass effect, slip a tieback around the center of the panel and overlap the Velcro ends to secure them.
  5. That's all there is to it!

Hanging and Adjusting Balloon Curtains

The balloon curtain is designed to be easily adjustable, up and down, to achieve a pleasing look. It is not, however, designed to be adjusted frequently like a shade.

Here are some hints on how to use this curtain.

  1. Find the small plastic bag, packed with your order, that contains the plastic split rings. These will be used to adjust the length of your balloon curtain.
  2. Lay your balloon, face down, on a table or the floor, and notice the horizontal rows of rings sewn in the back of the curtain.
  3. Slip one of the split rings onto each of the attached rings along the bottom row of rings.
  4. Using the split rings now attached to the bottom row of rings, slip each split ring onto the next ring above.Repeat this process, moving up one ring at a time, until your curtain reaches the desired length.
  5. Gather your curtain onto your rod, mount the rod on the brackets, and then arrange the curtain evenly, side to side.
  6. Puff out each section of your balloon curtain from behind to achieve desired look.

Installing Festoons & Jabots

  1. Install a standard double curtain rod. Note: To hang a sheer or a lace underneath, use a standard triple rod.
  2. Hang the jabots on the outer rod.
  3. Hang the festoons(s) on the next innermost rod and flip it (them) over the outer rod.
  4. To adjust the curtain to hang properly, slide the jabots to the ends of the rod, and gently straighten the pleats in the festoon(s).

Hanging Fishtail Swags & Scarves

Fishtail Swags & Scarves are easy to hang. Here are some hints.

  1. If necessary, iron both sides of the swag, following the fabric care instructions in this booklet.
  2. If your swag is reversible, choose the side you wish to feature and lay the swag flat, featured side down, on a large table or on the floor.
  3. Starting with the longest side of the swag ... the tail side ... fold the entire length of that side of the fabric over about 4" to 6". Keeping the folds even, fold over and under, like a fan, until all of the fabric is folded. When you are finished, the featured side should show on both the top and bottom of the fan.
  4. Drape the folded swag over your swag holders or decorative pole rod, with the long ends positioned against window frame to show folds in front.
  5. Holding one side of the swag in each hand, adjust the long ends to be of approximately equal length; then pull gently on the long ends to achieve a straight line in the fabric that crosses the top of your window. When using swag holders and no rod, it may be necessary to use a few pushpins or thumbtacks underneath the fabric and along the top of your window frame, to keep the top line of the fabric as horizontal as you would like. On wider windows, you may also use a standard curtain rod, hidden underneath the swag, to support the swag horizontally.
  6. With the length and horizontal line adjusted, smooth and soften the folds to achieve a graceful look.
