  • How to Measure information
  • Measuring & Selection Tips videos
  • Using a metal tape measure or a wooden yardstick, measure the width of the window area you would like to cover, typically from bracket to bracket.
  • Measure the width of window area you are covering. Choose a tie-up that will cover the rod area plus any side returns on the rod.
  • IMPORTANT: If using a Continental rod with your Tie-Up, our Continental Rod includes ’returns’ that wrap around the each side of the window frame and adds 6 inches (3 inches for each side) more to your window measurement.
  • For example, if your window measures 40" wide, you would add 6" more to this measurement for a total of 46" wide. The Tie-up you would purchase would be a minimum of 46" Wide.

"I bought this tie-up shade in two colors, natural and gray. The curtains are so easy to hang and give a nice fresh look to both rooms. I've been a Country Curtain customer since the 1970s and always been impressed with the consistent quality and beauty of their products."
"I've been a Country Curtains customer since the 1970s and have never been disappointed by the quality or service of the company. I ordered this valance and received it two days later. It looks wonderful on my kitchen window. "

"Love this cute chic little "shade"! This covers an odd little window that we stack wood under in the winter for our wood stove. At first I was going to return it b/c I wasn't sure how to tie it exactly, and honestly it just looked weird. Then I played around with it for a while and even used some indiscreet pins to make it perfect and now I love it. It will look best if you don't bunch it up (like a regular valance), but let it hang more like a shade. Hope that makes sense : )"
